Ktm Sxe 2 Vs 3 Vs 5
KTM SX-E 2 vs SX-E 3 vs SX-E 5 Compared
KTM's SX-E range is the only factory electric youth motocross lineup in the UK, built by the same Austrian engineers behind KTM's full-size petrol bikes. Three models cover ages 4 to roughly 12 — here's how the SX-E 2, SX-E 3 and SX-E 5 differ, and which one fits your rider.
KTM SX-E 2: the entry point (ages 4-7)
The KTM SX-E 2 bridges the gap between a balance bike and a proper electric motocross machine. It runs on 10in wheels with adjustable ergonomics so it grows with a young rider, and it's built to be the first electric motorcycle a 4-7 year old throws a leg over. Priced at £3,799, it's the most affordable bike in the SX-E range.
KTM SX-E 3: the mini-crosser (ages 6-9)
The KTM SX-E 3 steps up to a 3.8kW motor and a 648Wh battery, with six selectable ride modes so parents can dial in how much power is available. At £4,399, it's aimed at kids who've outgrown a starter bike and want something closer to a real motocross experience, with proper suspension travel and motocross geometry.
KTM SX-E 5: the flagship (ages 8-12)
The KTM SX-E 5 is the junior racer's bike. It carries a 5kW peak motor and a larger 907Wh battery for longer ride time, plus fully adjustable WP Xact suspension — the same suspension brand used on KTM's full-size race bikes. At £4,999, it's built for kids who are serious about racing, not just riding the garden.
SX-E 2 vs SX-E 3 vs SX-E 5: side by side
- SX-E 2 — Ages 4-7 · 10in wheels · adjustable ergonomics · £3,799
- SX-E 3 — Ages 6-9 · 3.8kW motor · 648Wh battery · 6 ride modes · £4,399
- SX-E 5 — Ages 8-12 · 5kW peak · 907Wh battery · WP Xact suspension · £4,999
Can you upgrade between models?
Yes, partially. The SX-E 3's 648Wh battery can be upgraded to the larger SX-E 5 pack for extra ride time without buying a whole new bike, which is a useful option if your child is growing into the SX-E 5's power band but isn't quite ready for the bigger machine. All three models share the same official KTM 900W charger, which charges the SX-E 5's pack from 0-80% in around 45 minutes.
Which KTM SX-E should you buy?
Go by age and ambition rather than budget alone. A genuinely young or first-time rider (4-7) should start on the SX-E 2. A 6-9 year old who's outgrown a starter bike and wants real motocross riding fits the SX-E 3. An 8-12 year old who's racing, or about to start, gets the most out of the SX-E 5's bigger battery and adjustable suspension.
